Two on each side, front and rear. 350's have ten. You will have two plugs left over. Put them in your tool box. Dave. I think you have it backwards, my 4 bolt 400 has 10 total, 3 on each side 2 front 2 rear. All other SBC's have 8 plugs that I am aware of.

You must line up the oil holes correctly too... the bearings also have to be pounded into the correct place using the correct tool. bearings should be marked stating the order they go in. I am fairly sure the rear '57 283 cam plug is 2-1/64" and it's fairly shallow to avoid hitting the back of the cam. They are not put into the kits but I think they are obtainable separately. However, you don't need full threads because there's not much real pressure on them. even with high oil pressure like 70lbs, run the numbers. 3/8 = .375. So, .375 x .375 x .7854 = 0.11 sq in. so at 70 lbs the plugs see's a load of about 7 lbs pushing on it.

There's 3 of them. The rear plugs (under the flywheel) are threaded, 1/4" NPT, or tapered pipe.
